15 January 1995 Serge Savy SXT CHIEF OBSERVER REPORT AND TABLE PLAN SXT CHIEF OBSERVER'S REPORT for Week 02: 8-JAN-96 to 14-JAN-96 SOLAR ACTIVITY The Sun was quiet during most of the last week with no major flares. AR7939 was visible for most of the week, but by the end of the week there were no active regions on the disc. SXT INSTRUMENT STATUS No significant SXT errors occurred. SXT continues to function normally. CAMPAIGNS With the successful launch of the Flare Genesis balloon on 7-Jan-96, SXT observations concentrated on AR739 for most of the week. Due to various problems, however, the Flare Genesis telescope could not track AR7939 as intended, and remained pointed at disc centre. On Friday a special table was loaded to observe a filament at N50 in the PFIs. This was the start of a return to our unofficial quiet corona campaign for the time being. SEMINARS On Wednesday 10 January there was a regular Yohkoh seminar. The speaker was H. Negoro (ISAS) on "X-ray fluctuations in black hole candidates in comparison with solar flares". SXT TABLE PLAN FOR WEEK 03 (15-JAN-96 to 22-Jan-96) James Lemen will take over as SXT Chief Observer this week. This week we will continue to coordinate with the Flare Genesis Balloon as appropriate. The balloon payload is currently looking at Sun center. The SXT partial field-of-view will also be set to Sun center unless an active region or a good filament target appears. The standard FFI diffuser images (both low8 and compressed) will be taken on Thursday as part of a standard table. The dark calibration table will run over Tuesday night. This week we continue with the terminator program, but no new OG's need to be prepared. The provisional SXT Table Plan for the week is as follows: KSC Time (start) in JST Pass Table ID _____________(= UT + 9 hrs)______#_______________________________ Monday 15-JAN-96 19:15 2 960115 P2 ARS0 QT CORONA Tuesday 16-JAN-96 21:17 3 960116 P3 ARS0 DKCAL Wednesday 17-JAN-96 19:54 3 960117 P3 ARS0 QT CORONA Thursday 18-JAN-96 20:13 3 960118 P3 ARS0 QT CORONA Friday 19-JAN-96 17:06 2 960119 P2 ARS0 QT CORONA Saturday 20-JAN-96 17:25 2 960120 P2 ARS1 STD+LONG *** Please note that this table plan may change *** Dumping Patrol images: We request that KSC tohban continue to dump a patrol image each time an SXT table is loaded to facilitate the study of optimizing ARS parameters for an awfully quiet period. SSOC TOHBAN, please fax the preliminary OP list to D-tou when it contains a terminator so that the Chief Observer can suggest which OG's to use.
