1991 October 30 (M4.3)



A GOES M4.3 solar flare occured on 1991 October 30 at an H-alpha location of S10W35 (heliographic coordinates). The soft X-ray flux began at 19:11 (69060 s), peaked at 19:16 (69360 s) and ended at 19:30 (70200 s) UT (GOES Geophysical Data Web Site). OSSE received a BATSE transient trigger at 69165 s and two of the four detectors slewed to the scan-angle position of the Sun, while the other two slewed to positions about 3 degrees off-source.

Significant emission of up to about 200 keV was observed during a ~210 time interval (69178-69388 s). Count rate time profiles in various energy windows at a temporal resolution of ~8 s are shown in Figure 1. A representative count spectrum is shown in Figure 2. A single power law with an index of about -5.4 was used to fit the data. The total fluence above 50 keV was 403.6 +/- 6.4 photons cm-2.
