1997 November 27 (C3.8)



A GOES C3.8 solar flare occurred on 1997 November 27 at an H-alpha location of N18E70 (heliographic coordinates). The soft X-ray flux began at 16:13 (58380 s), peaked at 16:26 (59160 s), and ended at 16:39 (59940 s) UT (GOES Geophysical Data Web Site). OSSE received no transient trigger from BATSE but was still observing the Sun in response to the BATSE trigger received for the earlier X2.6 flare.

Significant emission up to about 200 keV was observed during one ~131 s data accumulation interval (58365-58513 s). Count rate time profiles in various energy windows at a temporal resolution of ~8 s are shown in Figure 1. A representative count spectrum is shown in Figure 2. The total fluence above 50 keV was 125.6 +/- 2.0 photons cm-2.
