1999 July 23 (M1.0)



A GOES M1.0 solar flare occurred on 1999 July 23 at an H-alpha location of N20E04 (heliographic coordinates). The soft X-ray flux began at 15:54 (57240 s), peaked at 16:01 (57660 s) and ended at 16:13 (58380 s) UT (GOES Geophysical Data Web Site). The Sun was an OSSE target during this period and one of the four detectors was observing the Sun for the duration of the flare.

Significant emmission of up to about 100 keV was observed during a ~185 s time interval (57370-57555 s). Count rate time profiles in various energy windows at a temporal resolution of ~8 s are shown in Figure 1. A representative count spectrum is shown in Figure 2. A single power law with an index of about -6.3 was used to fit the data. The total fluence above 50 keV was 31.6 +/- 3.4 photons cm-2.
