1999 September 17 (M2.1)



A GOES M2.1 solar flare occurred on 1999 September 17. There was no reported associated H-alpha location. The soft X-ray flux began at 01:14 (4440 s), peaked at 01:20 {4800 s) and ended at 01:23 (4980 s) UT (GOES Geophysical Data Web Site). At the time of the flare, OSSE was observing the Sun and all four detectors were performing +/- 4.5 degree on-source-off-source viewing strategies.

Significant emmission of up to about 200 keV was observed during an ~180 s time interval (4620-4800 s). Count rate time profiles in various energy windows at a temporal resolution of ~8 s are shown in Figure 1. A representative count spectrum is shown in Figure 2. A single power law with an index of about -5.2 was used to fit the data. The total fluence above 50 keV was 260 +/- 3 photons cm-2.
