1999 August 03

On August 03, 1999, significant gamma-ray emission to ~150 keV was observed lasting until about 23420 s UT with one peak of emmision at ~23480. There was no BATSE solar-flare trigger but three detectors were already aimed towards the sun. Count rate time profiles in various energy windows at a temporal resolution of ~8 s are shown in Figure 1. Figure 2 shows a representative count spectrum obtained from one Sun-pointed detector integrated over the time period 23360-23425 s UT (65 seconds). Although there was a small inhancement in the soft X-ray flux, there was no accompanying GOES event recorded. The electron bremsstrahlung component was well-fit with a simple power law having a spectral index of ~1.93. There was no evidence for nuclear lines.
