From kivory2@osf1.mpae.gwdg.de Fri Feb 21 01:24 MST 1997 From: Kevin Ivory Organization: Max-Planck-Institut fuer Aeronomie Subject: Re: Kp station list A list of current observatories: The information below I extracted from the WWW pages that have now moved to Niemegk with the whole Kp calculation and distribution. The start page is: http://www.gfz-potsdam.de/pb2/pg3/niemegk/kp_index/ Ks/Kp Observatories The main purpose of the standardized index Ks is to provide a basis for the global geomagnetic index Kp which is the average of a number of "Kp stations", originally 11. The Ks data for the two stations Brorfelde and Lovö, as well as for Eyrewell and Canberra, are combined so that their average enters into the final calculation, the divisor thus remaining 11. From April 1, 1988, on the K indices from Niemegk, Germany are used instead." From the Kp calculating program, I extracted that Agincourt was used until March 1969. April 1969 and later Ottawa was used. Before 1972 only 12 stations were included for Kp calculating. If I read the code correct, Toolangi must have been the station added last (and later replaced by Canberra). -- Kevin Ivory Tel: +49 5556 979 434 Max-Planck-Institut fuer Aeronomie Fax: +49 5556 979 240 Postfach 20 mailto:kivory2@gwdg.de D-37189 Katlenburg-Lindau, GERMANY http://www.gwdg.de/~kivory2/ From bp@dmi.min.dk Thu Jul 17 02:09 MDT 1997 Received: from gate.dmi.min.dk (gate.dmi.min.dk [130.226.64.30]) by ngdc.noaa.gov (8.8.5/8.8.5) with SMTP id CAA26695 for ; Thu, 17 Jul 1997 02:09:35 -0600 (MDT) Received: from dmi.min.dk (butler.dmi.min.dk [130.226.64.29]) by gate.dmi.min.dk (8.6.4/8.6.4) with SMTP id IAA18283; Thu, 17 Jul 1997 08:11:25 GMT Received: from dmi66117.dmi.dk by dmi.min.dk (5.x/SMI-SVR4) id AA04005; Thu, 17 Jul 1997 08:09:28 GMT Message-Id: Priority: Normal To: hcoffey@ngdc.noaa.gov, Hans-Joachim Linthe Cc: "'Ole Rasmussen'" Mime-Version: 1.0 From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?B=F8rge?= Pedersen Subject: History of Kp stations Date: Thu, 17 Jul 97 10:15:06 -0000 (UTC) Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; X-MAPIextension=".TXT" Content-Length: 542 Status: R Dear Helen Coffey. >From Dr. Linthe, GFZ, I have received your request for when Brorfelde replaced Rude Sov in the Kp derivation, and the answer is: Rude Skov was used until 15 March 1984, and consequently Brorfelde has been used from 16 March 1984 an onwards.
