Folks, I have planned and run the 2 NIS studies proposed by Young et al. They ran Ok on the EM apart from the fact that the mirror seemed to stick during the first raster of one of them, but I assume that is an EM feature. One of the durations came out longer than planned by a couple hundred seconds so I will ask for that to be hardwired into the database. It should be noted that the small brightenings study uses 24 NIS windows and cannot therefore record the CCD background - please confirm that you are happy with the consequences of that. In juggling the telemetry/exposure times I set the areal coverage (solarX/Y) in the bright point study to be 60"x120" (as opposed to requested 60"x60") but only 240"x120" in the off-limb study (240"x240" requested). I am having trouble generating the FITS files for the Fe_lines GIS study so will try that again later. I will export the NIS ones and inform Bill. Resume follows... --------------------------------------------------- SMALL_SB - Study of small scale brightenings Precise acronym to be run - SMALL_SB Approx Duration - 835 secs (per raster), 4 rasters in total NIS, 60x120 arcsec area, 4x240 arcsec slit, 15 locations Exposure time 50s, Compression - straight copy Lines: 24 - too numerous to list! Comment - lines chosen to study range of temperatures to investigate nature of any brightenings seen ---------------------------------------------------- OLICS - Off Limb Inner Corona Study (pity it wasn't Barely Off Limb....) Precise acronym to be run - OLICS Approx Duration - 2100 sec (per raster) (to be hardwired), 4 rasters NIS, 240,120 arcsec area, 4x240 arcsec slit, 60 locations, Exposure time 30s, Compression: Straight copy Lines: Lots (15) Comment - Study of temperature and density structure in the inner corona. -------------------------------------------------------- Dave
