LASCO Activity Report for
December 20, 2004 SOHO Science Daily Meeting

Planner: K. Schenk, G. Stenborg

Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.

Points Of Interest

Bright non-group comet entered the C3 FOV on 2004/12/16 at 04:42 UT from
the right hand edge (above the equatorial plane). It shows a fairly nice tail.
Still in the C3 FOV (upper left quadrant).

- Telemetry Keyhole # 7: 2004/12/13 - 2004/12/29 (intermitent contact).

- Spacecraft Maneuvers on 2004/12/21 (Tuesday). Therefore, LASCO will be
closing for the S/C maneuvers (Station keeping, Momentum management, and
  180 deg roll) between Dec. 20 (~20:30 UT) - Dec 23 (~ 20:45 UT).

- EIT pre-bake cals taken on Saturday 2004/12/11 between 15:24-18:30 UT. The
CCD bakeout started at 18:47 UT. The end of the bakeout will be on 2004/12/28
at 10:00 UT. Therefore, no EIT images during that period.

- During the Keyhole, LASCO will observe with DSN gap recording availability
thanks to the FOT and the SOCs hard work. C2 and C3 will observe at a
standard synoptic plan of C2 at 10 minute cadence and C3 at the 30 minute
cadence with the daily pB and flat field images.

2004/12/17 (Friday)

	MOSTLY QUIET.

	15:36 - 20:12 UT Temporary Data Gap.

20:24 UT N East	Slow development of a very faint system of loops.

2004/12/18 (Saturday)

	02:36 - 09:36 UT Temporary Data Gap.

09:48 UT N East	Faint loop front already under development after data
gap (already close to the outer edge of C2). Also by
that time a ragged front starts to be discerned at the
northern leg of the loop followed by gusty outflow in
the form of small blobs along streamer.

10:24 UT W Limb	Bright loop front with twisted inner core. By 11:24 UT,
faint and diffuse extensions can be seen above the N
Pole. No significant X-ray activity was reported by
			GOES by the time.

	13:48 - 22:00 UT Temporary Data Gap.

2004/12/19 (Sunday)

00:12 UT W Limb	Faint ragged front.

	03:00 - 08:36 UT	Temporary Data Gap.

08:48 UT S East	Faint loop front (fainter to N) already under
			development after data gap.

	09:36 - 20:12 UT	Temporary Data Gap.

20:24 UT NN East	Ragged fronts along streamer (gusty outflow) already
under development after data gap, well into next day.

2004/12/20 (Monday)

00:36 UT N West	Jet-like front.

01:48 UT ES East	Faint and diffuse spray-like front.

	09:48 - 14:48 UT	Temporary Data Gap.

14:48 UT E Limb	Big ragged loop front already under development
			after data gap.

LASCO will be closing doors at 20:30 UT. It will reopen at ~ 20:45 UT
	on 2004/12/23 (Thursday).
