LASCO Activity Report for
December 09, 2004 SOHO Science Daily Meeting

Planner: K. Schenk, G. Stenborg

Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.

Points Of Interest

SOHO Telemetry Submode changed back to Submode 5 on 2004/12/01 @ ~ 19:00 UT.
EIT 195 CME watch at half resolution (512x512) since then.

After the EIT Shutterles Campaign and while in Submode 6, EIT 195 CME
watch at full resolution (1024x1024).

SOHO Telemetry Submode changed to Submode 6 at 14:00 UT on 2004/11/30
(EIT Shutterless Campaign between 17:00 - 19:40 UT). It will be back
to Submode 5 on 2004/12/01 at 19:00 UT.

SOHO is in Telemetry Submode 5 since 2004/11/08 @ 22:15 UT. While in
Submode 5, half resolution EIT 195 CME watch (512x512).

2004/12/08 (Wednesday)

W Infalling material and some faint small blobs coming
out in the Western hemisphere all along the day.

Otherwise, mostly quiet Sun until close to the end of
the day when a Full Halo Event occurred.

05:26 UT SS East	Faint elongated and thin loop front followed at 06:50 UT
a little bit to N by a faint jet-like front.

20:26 UT NW - SE	Brightenings above the NW and SE Limbs. The event
HALO	develops as a Full Halo CME by 21:26 UT (C2 occulting
disk fully surrounded by that time). LASCO Data
Gap afterwards (See Notes below). GOES reported a long
duration X-ray event (C2.5) originating from NOAA AR
			10709 (N01W07) between 19:34 - 20:44 UT with peak
emission at 19:59 UT, associated to the event seen on
LASCO. EIT 195 images show a brightening on the AR
mentioned above starting at 19:36 UT. Post flare loops
afterward. Relatively large dimming region to E and
			W of the AR.
For completeness, also note that a second X-ray flare
(C1.1) was reported, this time originating on NOAA AR
			10710 (S09E49) on 2004/12/09 between 00:09 - 00:15 UT
with peak emission at 00:10 UT.

Last image analyzed: 21:26 UT (C2 time). LASCO Data Gap afterward.
Last EIT image before Data Gap at 21:36 UT.

- Notes:
. SOHO Telemetry lost at 21:58 UT.
. Telemetry recovered in low rate at 22:12 UT. Spacecraft in ESR (Emergency
Sun Reacquisition Mode) when telemetry recovered.

2004/12/09 (Thursday)

- Notes (continue):
. As part of nominal recovery SOHO entered CRP mode (Coarse Roll Pointing)
    at 04:44 UT.
. Since SOHO is still in low telemetry rate until some time today, recovery
will be performed somewhen during the day.
