LASCO Activity Report for
November 17, 2004 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Stenborg
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.
Points Of Interest
SOHO is in Telemetry Submode 5 since 2004/11/08 @ 22:15 UT. While in Submode 5,
half resolution EIT 195 CME watch (512x512).
2004/11/16 (Tuesday)
02:50 UT W Limb Ragged loop front preceded by a wide and diffuse front
that spans up to above the NW Limb. Infalling material
on WSW.
04:50 UT W Limb Another similar ragged front.
06:26 UT N East Very bright loop front followed apparently by another
bright front. Trailing material. The mean plane-of-sky
speed of the LE at PA ~ 50 deg was ~ 435 km/sec showing
practically no acceleration (based on C3 data). Please
note that already since 04:26 UT (C2 time) an excess
intensity is seen above the NE Limb. Some asymmetric
fronts are discernible in the trailing material, in
particular one at ~ 17:36 UT (on E).
11:50 UT S West Very faint and diffuse elongated loop front. It fades
throughout C2.
14:50 UT S West Another very faint and diffuse loop front. It fades
close to the inner edge of C3.
19:27 UT W Limb Slow development of a system of loops. Difficult to
give an exact time of first appearance.
21:50 UT ES East Faint loop front that fades close to the inner edge
of C3.
23:26 UT W Limb Elongated ragged loop front with structured interior
almost superposed in the LOS with event reported to start
at 19:27 UT. Gusty outflow into next day. The event
develops slightly toward WSW. The development of the
slow system of loops seems to be affected by this event,
though it is difficult to say.
23:50 UT N East In the aftermath of event at 06:26 UT, much gusty
outflow on NE well into next day after a narrow front
that seems to form at around 23:50 UT.
2004/11/17 (Wednesday)
09:26 UT E Limb Narrow loop front.
12:06 UT E Limb Small and bright ragged loop front accompanied by a
fainter and ragged loop front to S.
