LASCO Activity Report for
September 08, 2004 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Stenborg
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.
Points Of Interest
2004/09/07 (Tuesday)
S Pole The slow and continuous development of a system of
asymmetric loops that started at around 16:30 UT on
previous day strongly continues at least during the
first half of the day, spanning all above the S Pole.
As time goes by, the main direction of the flow seems
to rotate toward W, like following the Sun's rotation.
ACtivity most likely associated with the 'cluster' of
active regions 10667, 10669, and 10670.
08:30 UT W Limb Small and faint loop front that quickly fades. EIT
Fe XII running difference images show an apparently
barely backsided starting at around 07:36 above the
W Limb. GOES recorded a C1.1 X-ray flare form NOAA AR
10668 (S08W88) between 07:06 - 08:03 UT with peak
emission at 07:38 UT.
15:30 UT E Limb Bright and wide loop front with structured interior and
trailing material and gusty outflow well into next day.
By 16:54 UT an apparent different structure seems to
develop inside the previos CME and spanning up to above
the S Pole. The development of two different structures
is clearer in C3. EIT Fe XII running difference images
show a big and barely backsided CME above the E Limb
starting at around 14:00 UT. Please also note that
between 15:24 - 16:12 UT an intensity disturbance is
seen travelling all above the SE Limb (maybe related to
the second feature seen in C2 FOV?).
GOES recorded a long duration X-ray event, i.e., a
C2.8 X-ray flare from N03E85 between 13:40 - 16:43 UT
with peak emission at 15:29 UT (not associated with a
currently named NOAA AR).
18:54 UT S West Diffuse and wide loop front. Continuos development of a
system of loop fronts into next day. EIT Fe XII running
difference images show a faint CME signature from nearby
NOAA AR 10671 starting at around 18:12 UT. Post-event
loops develop afterward.
2004/09/08 (Wednesday)
E Limb Intermitent small ragged fronts. GOES recorded a C1.5
X-ray flare from N05E85 between 00:59 - 01:26 UT with
peak emission at 01:10 UT.
02:30 UT N East Ragged and elongated loop front.
02:30 UT S West Superposed in the LOS with event at 18:54 UT on previous
day a faint ragged front develops moving apparently
faster. More similar fronts afterward.
04:30 UT S Pole Faint and elongated front. GOES recorded a B9.0 X-ray
flare from NOAA AR 10699 (S05E02) between 03:41 - 03:57
UT with peak emission at 03:49 UT.
