LASCO Activity Report for
June 04, 2004 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Stenborg
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.
Points Of Interest
VENUS entered (from the left) the C3 field of view on 2004/06/03
(Thursday) at around 16:00 UT.
SOHO Telemetry Submode changed to Submode 5 on 2004/04/13 at 16:00 UT
(SUMER began observing on 2004/04/14). SUMER campaign runs until 2004/06/17.
In other words, LASCO synoptic observation plan cadence remains the same
but the EIT CME watch images will be reduced to half-resolution (512x512)
during that period.
2004/06/03 (Thursday)
05:50 UT WS West Narrow and ragged asymmetric front in the gusty outflow
at the southern leg of event reported to start at
23:15 UT on previous day. It fades throughout C3. It is
preceded at 03:06 by a bright jet-like front that
fades throughout C2.
09:50 UT WN West Ragged loop front. It fades throughout C3.
12:06 UT E Limb Diffuse and ragged loop front. By 12:50 UT, on ESE Limb,
a jet like front is first seen and evolves apparently
accompanying the development of the ragged front in C2.
13:27 UT W Limb Bright ragged front with fairly faint loop-like
extensions to N, developing slightly toward WNW. It
fades throughout C3. It is followed at 14:26 UT by a
fan-like front, barely visible in C3.
15:26 UT S West Slow development of a faint system of arcades apparently
afected during its development in C2 by the event
reported to start at 16:50 UT. At 18:26 UT a relatively
brighter front appears and seems to push earlier
features. No visible signature associated with the
event on the disk as seen in EIT Fe XII.
16:50 UT W Limb Wide and bright loop front, cavity and trailing material.
Typical limb event. Faint extensions to N. Difficult to
discern whether they are part of the limb event or belong
to the event reported to start at 15:26 UT. EIT Fe XII
running difference images show a barely backsided event
above the W Limb starting at around 16:12 UT. By
16:36 UT a bright feature is seen to develop toward NW.
17:00 - 19:00 UT Special LASCO C3 Venus Observations.
No EIT images.
21:50 UT N East Ragged and diffuse loop front.
2004/06/04 (Friday)
00:00 - 05:50 UT Temporary DSN Data Gap.
06:50 UT WS West Narrow ragged loop front, surpassed later by event
reported to start at 07:50 UT.
07:50 UT W Limb Bright and wide loop front, and cavity (under
development).
15:00 - 17:00 UT Special LASCO C3 Venus Observations.
No EIT images.
