LASCO Activity Report for
April 30, 2004 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Stenborg
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.
Points Of Interest
SOHO Telemetry Submode changed to Submode 5 on 2004/04/13 at 16:00 UT
(SUMER began observing on 2004/04/14). SUMER campaign runs until 2004/06/17.
In other words, LASCO synoptic observation plan cadence remains the same
but the EIT CME watch images will be reduced to half-resolution (512x512)
during that period.
2004/04/29 (Thursday)
11:54 UT First C2 image after recovery. Test image.
13:27 UT First LASCO C2 image (synoptic observation plan).
13:42 UT First LASCO C3 image (synoptic observation plan).
19:27 UT S West Ragged loop front followed at 21:26 UT to SE by a
couple of wide loops. By that time a front begins to be
visible above NW. The resulting complex event becomes
a 'full' halo CME as seen in C2 FOV by 23:06 UT, though
rather faint above the W Limb. EIT show no signatures
of the event on the disc. Likewise, there is no report
of a flare by the time. Therefore, the event was most
probably backsided.
2004/04/30 (Friday)
04:26 UT N West Bright ragged front. EIT Fe XII running difference
images show CME coming out from just behind the NW
limb starting at around 02:36 UT.
07:27 UT W Limb Front to S of previous event preceded by a faint and
diffuse front to S at 06:26 UT that quickly fades. The
front fades throughout C2. It could be related to C 1.9
X-ray flare occurred on S14W42 between 05:35 - 05:55 UT
with peak emission at 05:47 UT. EIT show signatures
of the event (wave and dimming toward W and N) starting
at ~05:36 - 05:48 UT.
