LASCO Activity Report for
April 15, 2004 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Stenborg
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.
Points Of Interest
SOHO Telemetry Submode changed to Submode 5 on 2004/04/13 at 16:00 UT
(SUMER began observing on 2004/04/14). SUMER campaign runs until 2004/06/17.
In other words, LASCO synoptic observation plan cadence remains the same
but the EIT CME watch images will be reduced to half-resolution (512x512).
2004/04/14
00:26 UT N East Slow development of system of loops along the streamer.
Difficult to give an exact time of first appearance.
By ~ 07:27 UT a very asymmetric loop front starts
developing first distinguished along the streamer
(though the starting time is again very difficult to
determine). By 11:50 UT is clearly seen, one leg along
the streamer on NE (front already at the end of C2 FOV),
the other on the NW limb. The north eastern part
exits C3 FOV by 23:18 UT. Backsided event.
01:27 UT S East Asymetric ragged loop front, at PA that matches that of
the leg on SSE of the wide ragged loop front reported to
start at 21:26 UT on previous day. It is preceded by a
similar front (though smaller) at ~22:26 UT on previous
day. Twisted trailing material.
05:26 UT S East Spray-like front slightly to N of previous event.
16:26 UT S West Relatively bright small feature along streamer.
18:26 UT E Limb Spray-like front developing toward SE. Barely visible
in C3, only close to the inner edge.
20:26 UT S Pole Narrow spray ragged front developing slightly toward SE.
It fades throughout C2.
21:26 UT N West Elongated ragged loop front at PA that matches that of
the leg on NW of the big asymetric loop that was
reported to start developing at ~07:27 UT.
22:26 UT S West Bright ragged fan-like front. It fades throughout C3.
23:06 UT N East Ragged loop front at PA that matches that of the leg
on NE of the big asymetric loop that was reported to
start developing at ~07:27 UT. Gusty outflow well into
next day.
2004/04/15
03:26 UT S West Spray-like front.
08:06 UT S West Bright narrow ragged front along streamer, slightly to
S of previous event.
08:06 UT N West Loop front that quickly fades. At 08:26 UT a bright
ragged front appears at the PA of the northern leg of
the loop, moving much faster.
