LASCO Activity Report for
April 07, 2004 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Stenborg
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.
Points Of Interest
2004/04/06
00:30 UT W Limb Spray-like front developing slightly toward SW, followed
by a couple of ragged fronts (e.g., 04:54 UT, 09:30 UT).
They all fade throughout C3.
06:06 UT S Pole Fairly faint and small spray-like front developing
slightly toward SW. It fades throughout C2.
08:30 UT S Pole Fairly faint and small spray-like front developing
slightly toward SE. It fades throughout C2.
11:30 UT W Limb Fairly faint ragged front developing slightly toward NW.
In C3 only barely visible close to the inner edge.
13:31 UT HALO Bright loop front appears above SE limb; by 14:06 UT
the front has developed into a full halo CME, though
rather faint in the NW. The front first appeared in C3
images at 14:18 UT with full coverage of the C3
occulting disk by 15:18 UT. The mean plane-of-sky speed
at PA 163 was 1075 km/s showing a slight positive
acceleration in C2 FOV and a slight deceleration in C3
FOV. Most probably associated with a M2.4 X-ray flare
that GOES records from AR 0588 (by the time at S18E15)
between 12:30 - 13:46 UT with peak emission at 13:28 UT.
Clear signatures of the event in EIT Fe XII running
difference images between 12:36 and 15:48 UT, the flare
peaking at 13:25 UT.
19:54 UT S Pole Faint and diffuse loop front, immediately preceded by
another faint front slightly to SE that quickly fades.
22:06 UT W Limb Faint ragged front developing slightly toward SW. It
fades in C3.
23:54 UT W Limb Spray-like front developing slightly toward NW. It fades
in C2.
2004/04/07
04:06 - 10:54 UT Temporary DSN Data Gap.
