LASCO Activity Report for
April 06, 2004 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Stenborg
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.
Points Of Interest
2004/04/05
01:31 UT W Limb Spray-like front followed at 03:54 UT by another
spray-like front.
02:54 UT S East Ragged loop front slightly to N of previous events. At
~04:06 UT it is followed by a brighter loop front at PA
that matches that of its southern leg. At ~01:13 UT a
CME is seen in EIT Fe XII running difference images
coming out from just behind the SE limb, while at
~04:00 UT a fine prominence close to the SE limb is
seen to partially erupt.
06:06 UT S East Bright loop front, strong cavity, and trailing material.
It surpasses previous event by the end of C2 FOV (07:31).
By that time, faint extensions (shock signatures) can be
seen to NE and SW giving the appearance of a partial
halo CME. Mean plane-of-sky speed at PA 145: 573 km/s
based on C2 and C3 data. NOAA AR 0588 (located S18E35)
produced an M1.7 X-ray flare starting at ~05:37 UT with
peak emission at 05:55 UT. The flare is most likely
related to the event.
19:31 UT N West Faint ragged blob-like front along streamer.
21:08 UT S East Narrow ragged loop front in the trailing material of
event reported to start at 06:06 UT
2004/04/06
00:30 UT W Limb Spray-like front developing slightly toward SW, followed
by a couple of ragged fronts (e.g., 04:54 UT, 09:30 UT).
They all fade throughout C3.
06:06 UT S Pole Fairly faint and small spray-like front developing
slightly toward SW. It fades throughout C2.
08:30 UT S Pole Fairly faint and small spray-like front developing
slightly toward SE. It fades throughout C2.
