LASCO Activity Report for
November 3, 2003 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Lawrence
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.
Points Of Interest
LASCO images severely degraded following the
X8 proton flare from AR 0486 2003/11/02.
Proton levels now dropping but contamination
is still serious.
LASCO images are at irregular times and cadences
due to the impact of the proton levels on the
instrument's telemetry buffer
2003/10/31
00:40 UT W Limb Slow wide bright loop fronts follow
sporadic ragged fronts along faint
streamer leading to partial blowout,
much gusty outflow
04:42 UT N West Fairly bright ragged loop front, similar
smaller fainter events follow
12:07 UT S East Faint loop fronts along streamer leading
to partial blowout
17:30 UT S West Bright narrow ragged front along streamer
20:30 UT E Limb Fairly wide spray-like front
2003/11/01
12:30 UT W Limb Ragged loop fronts follow very slow loops
along streamer that has been swelling and
rising for several hours. Faster brighter
fronts follow from 16:30 leading to partial
streamer blowout
21:30 UT N West Wide bright loop front fills quadrant,
cavity and multiple-loop core-like region
and much gusty outflow follow
23:06 UT S West Fast wide bright loop front with cavity,
core and much gusty outflow. M3.2 X-ray
flare AR 0489, S12S75
2003/11/02
09:30 UT HALO Thick wide bright fast loop front in W
is full halo CME by 09:54. Large backsided
EIT event
17:30 UT HALO Thick wide bright fast loop front in SW
is full halo CME by 17:54, though faint
in NE. X8.3 X-ray proton flare AR 0486
S14W56, prolonged gusty outflow
2003/11/03
01:36 UT N West Fairly wide bright asymmetric loop front
with cavity and gusty outflow. X2.7 X-ray
flare AR 0488, N10W83
10:06 UT N West Thick wide bright loop front fills quadrant,
fairly fast. X3.9 X-ray flare AR 0488 N08W77,
streamer in NE deflected
