LASCO Activity Report for
March 19, 2003 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Lawrence
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.
Points Of Interest
Planet Mercury is visible in C3 images,
moving R to L
2003/03/18
03:30 UT N West Very slow loop front along streamer,
quite faint
06:06 UT S East Narrow loop front along streamer
faster brighter fronts follow
06:54 UT S West Bright moderately narrow loop front with
cavity and some trailing material
07:31 UT E Limb Narrow loop front with cavity
10:30 UT E Limb Narrow bright asymmetric loop front with
slight cavity, wider and faster than
previous event
10:30 UT S West Bright moderately narrow loop front with
cavity and some trailing material, interacts
with earlier 06:54 event?
10:54 UT N West Fairly slow faint asymmetric loop front
12:30 UT W Limb Fast wide bright loop front, two images only
at writing. X1.5 X-ray flare AR0314 S15W46.
Spans ~120 deg with possible very faint
extensions over both poles
12:54 UT E Limb Narrow bright front, slight cavity follows.
Further similar events at 15:54, 18:54, 23:30
13:54 UT HALO Wide bright fast front in SW fills quadrant
and into NW with fainter extensions through
SE and E to NE then faint extension over pole.
Much trailing material in NW, also in SW along
streamer which is subsequently largely removed
2003/03/19
01:31 UT S West Moderately narrow bright front along streamer,
part of depletion process
02:30 UT HALO Bright loop front initially in SW and over pole
is full halo CME by 03:06 though fastest and
brightest in S. Some gusty outflow in SW
04:30 UT E Limb Narrow spray-like front, another at 09:54.
Narrower and slower than similar events on
previous day
