LASCO Activity Report for
December 31, 2001 SOHO Science Daily Meeting

Planner: K. Schenk, G. Lawrence

Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.

Points Of Interest

Happy New Year!

Venus is in C3's field of view moving right to left. (large object on right)
The Milky Way Galaxy is now leaving C3's field of view - the cluster to the
bottom right.

2001/12/28

03:30 UT E Limb	Ragged loop front fades rapidly

04:30 UT W Limb	Narrow loop front along streamer, fades,
			some gusty outflow follows

10:34 UT W Limb	Similar to previous event but wider

11:54 UT N East	Wide bright ragged loop front with cavity and core
			and much trailing material.

16:30 UT N West	Slow ragged loop front, fairly narrow

20:06 UT N West	Wider, faster well-defined loop front from
same/nearby region, breaks up through C2.
			Some core-like material follows

20:06 UT Partial	Wide bright fast front in SE is ~160 deg partial
Halo halo CME by 21:06. X3.4 flare in new AR (9767)
over SE limb, so backsided. 2170 km/s.

2001/12/29

09:54 UT N West	Fairly wide bright loop front with cavity and core
			and some continued outflow

17:54 UT S West	Small slow blob

18:30 UT N West	Faster front with core follows and overtakes
			slow loops. All fairly narrow

20:30 UT W Limb	Wide bright loop front with cavity and core, much
gusty outflow follows. Streamers disrupted to N and S

2001/12/30

02:30 UT S West	Narrow ragged front along streamer

04:06 UT E Limb	Very faint ragged front, fairly wide

15:06 UT S West	Narrow ragged front breaks up through C2

22:30 UT S West	Fairly wide bright fan develops into ragged
			loop front. Soon obscured by

23:30 UT HALO Bright loop front in SW is full halo CME by
00:30. EIT backsided event, probably an
			eruptive prominence

2001/12/31

10:35 UT S West	Very narrow loop front fades in C2
