LASCO Activity Report for
April 18, 2001 SOHO Science Daily Meeting
Planner: K. Schenk, G. Lawrence
Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
Points Of Interest
Proton fluxes in C2 and C3 have returned to high levels
following this morning's proton event.
Mercury presently in C3's field of view, moving right to left
Details of C3 transits are available at D. Biesecker's
SOHO comet website.
2001/04/17
08:06 UT N East Ragged front along narrow streamer widens in C2.
Very faint slow loops follow, brighter front
follows at 13:31
08:30 UT W Limb Faint spray, also very faint narrow front
somewhat to N.
12:30 UT S West Faint spray
16:30 UT N East Another front/blob along same streamer as
08:06 and 13:31 events
21:54 UT N East Faint amorphous front somewhat to S of streamer.
Brighter core follows but fabes in C2. Very faint
narrow loop fronts follow
2001/04/18
02:30 UT S West Very fast bright front fills quadrant and disrupts
streamers to N and S. N East streamer also disrupted.
By 03:30 very faint extensions visible around entire
C2 occultor. 1388 km/s, proton event. Major flare
from AR 9415? Large loops in S West vanish at 02:36,
followed by EIT wave/dimming. Cavity and loop core
follow in S West, gusty outflow along N West streamer.
