SOHO/LASCO  HALO CME February 9, 2024

C2 Start Time:  12:48 - 13:25 UT

C3 Start Time:  12:54 - 13:42 UT

Type of CME:
Asymmetric HALO CME — FRONTSIDE
pa1:  000    pa2:  360      Total Width:  360 degrees

Velocity Measurements:

C2:   1 points  **** km/sec @ PA 227
C3:   6 points  2144.6 km/sec @ PA 227.47
Average through both(C2/C3) fields:  2327.7 km/sec  Acceleration: **** m/sec^2

COMMENT:  LASCO C2/C3 show a quick moving full halo CME. The halo CME
emerges from the SW with bright opening lines that quickly fade away while the core propagates outwards. The CME wraps around to the NW by 15:18 into a full halo best seen in C3. Due to the rapid expulsion of the CME only 1 point of measurement could be made from C2. The halo CME is the result of a X3.4 flare centered around S37W85(AR 3575) accompanied by an eruption of filamentary material seen best in SDO AIA 171. The flare is followed by an EUV wave and post-eruptive arcades.

LASCO shows extreme proton flux in the field of view. (SEP)

NOAA/GOES reports a X3.4 flare from AR 13575 12:53/13:14/13:31 UT

STEREO Beacon Data COR2 A, Preliminary time/height at 2 points of measurement gives a velocity of 1495.8 km/s @PA 227.20. STEREO COR2A shows a halo CME emerging from the SW beginning at approximately 13:38 UT. The halo CME propagates outwards with bulk portion toward the SW while simulataneouly wrapping around to the N and W.

Preliminary UCMEO velocity and position measurements are delivered first.
