proposal
In pursuit of the main goal of our approved guest investigation, to clarify the magnetic origins
of coronal heating, we would initially like to use single EIT 195 A and 304 A full disk images from a half-dozen days. The distribution of areas of enhanced emission will be compared with longitudinal magnetic flux distributions seen in near-time Kitt Peak magnetograms. A quantitative description of the appearance of the magnetic network at the temperatures of formation of He II and Fe XII will be used to determine the extent to which the smallest bright points avoid cell centers. We will use this initial analyses to develop the tools we will be using to describe the transient and long-lived bright features of the network throughout our project. The EIT files we want are listed below. In addition, we would like to apply a similar analysis to a sequence of high-time resolution images. Full disk or partial frame data that covers a region near disk center would be suitable. Two candidate sequences are listed below. MDI data during or near the time of these sequences is also requested.
