Yohkoh/SXT observed AR 8088 from its emergence on 21 September
1997. The region repeatedly showed eruptive behavior in SXT
data, and actually produced CMEs, some of which are part of
the special events of ISTP. By tracking the region from its
birth in SXT and EIT data, we will try to find out at what
evolutionary stage of the region the CMEs occurred, and to
identify the lower-temperature counterpart to the sigmoid
structure in SXT images (which is often considered to be a
prelude to a CME). As far as the SXT data are concerned,
AR 8088 seemed to produce two types of eruptions. The first
type is a fast eruption associated with a cusp structure, and
the second type a slower one, which looks like a rupture of a
loop structure. EIT data will be very helpful to find out if
different mechanisms were responsible for the two types.
