proposal
The EIT data I am requesting access to was taken on October 4 1996
as part of JOP 20 "Evidence for Nanoflares...". The program is
described on the SOHO JOP web pages but I will give a short des-
cription here: The main purpose of these observations is to see
if it is possible to see signatures of acoustic/Alfven waves that
have been generated as a result of nanoflares "going off" in the
corona in transition region lines. The transition region lines were
monitored by SUMER and CDS at high cadence - these will compared to
synthetically generated spectra resulting from model calculations
of sporadic energy release in the corona. MDI observations of
velocity, intensity and magnetic field were also taken in order
to have some "control" over the photospheric (contribution to)
velocities.
I hope to have the EIT data - which should consist of small field
Fe XII taken at sun center at relatively high cadence - in order
to monitor what the corona is doing above the transition region
observed with CDS/SUMER. In particular I would be looking for
correlations between Fe XII brightenings and activity in the tran-
sition region lines. The data may also be useful in co-pointing
the observations from the other instruments.
I have had prior contact with the EIT team on this JOP; Dan Moses
has been appointed as contact and I have scheduled the observation/
designed the observing procedure with his help.
