We propose to use EIT data material to search for mass flows in
active regions. Data obtained with the active region close to the
solar limb are of special interest, since JOP018 observations
of sunspots on the disk have shown that strong flows in the
vertical direction exist both in the transition region and corona.

The JOP018 observations with CDS and SUMER show that the flow field
is quite non-uniform and the upflows and downflows are concentrated
to smaller areas, the size of which appears to increase with line
formation temperature. Studies of temporal variations show that
the flow field changes with time but maintains its general character.
Our intension is to extend our knowledge of the sunspot flow field
by utilising some of the EIT observations of active regions.


The data we ask permission to use is the full-field, full-resolution
He II 304 A images obtained with ~ 6 minute cadence on 1997 March 18 -
19, specifically of the active region on the W limb and the loop
systems above it. We will also ask to use the full-field,
full-resolution Fe XII 195 A images obtained on 1997 April 7 with 14 m
cadence which include active region 8026 where a large flare occurred.
However, we will restrict our analysis to the post-flare jets and not
the the flare or Moreton wave.
