The goal of the study is to investigate the coronal source regions
of solar energetic particle events detected with the SOHO/COSTEP
experiment (PI: H. Kunow) at L1.
Scientific questions addressed:
- Particle acceleration mechanisms in the low corona: flare,
CME driven shocks, reconnection processes
- What kind of coronal dynamics leads to SEPs in ip-space
- What is the manifestation of active regions in ip-space
in terms of energetic particles (p, he , e) at MeV
energies ?
- How are energetic particles at 1 AU related to the structure
of the solar corona (active regions, CIRs, etc) and its
changes
- Study of coronal dynamics in the very low corona in association
with CMEs, flares, coronal shocks and their relation to SEPs
in ip-space

Another goal is to use the data for educational purposes,
e.g. at schools and universities.

We plan to establish movies with COSTEP and EIT images on a
daily basis for the period of the whole mission with
the EIT images taken at the 4 diff. wavelengths and to study
individual solar events that have been observed in high time
resolution.
