Eclipse Predictions
Introduction
On Tuesday, 1995 October 24, a total eclipse of the Sun will be visible from
much of the eastern hemisphere. The path of the Moon's umbral shadow begins in
the Middle East, and sweeps across India, Southeast Asia, and South China Sea
where it briefly engulfs the northern tip of Borneo before swinging eastward
between the Philippines and New Guinea. The path ends at sunset in the Pacific
Ocean south of the Marshall Islands. A partial eclipse will be seen within the
much broader path of the Moon's penumbral shadow, which includes most of Asia,
the Indonesian archipelago and Australia
(Figures 1 and
2).
