Figure 1: The BCS data compression algorithm
All the BCS spectral data are output to telemetry as compressed counts. The compression is done by a hardware lookup table held in ROM (read-only memory) using a compression scheme that minimizes the errors. It is a complex function and is shown in Fig 1.
