LASCO Activity Report for
August 5, 2002 SOHO Science Daily Meeting

Planner: K. Schenk, G. Lawrence

Event times are first frame seen in C2 camera unless otherwise noted.
These are preliminary observations for the daily SOHO science discussions.
Final analysis is reported on the Lasco CME list.
An archive of these reports is available.

Points Of Interest

C2 high-cadence pB sequence campaign now running.
C2 pB sequences being taken every hour at the expense
of 1 normal C2 image and 1 normal C3 image.
Campaign runs to 2002/08/12.

Planet Mars is now in C3's field of view, moving L to R

2002/08/02

04:30 UT S West	Sequence of narrow bright blobs

05:06 UT W Limb	Faint loop front

05:42 UT S West	Slow system of bright loops along streamer.
			Extremely slow multiple-loop core follows,
moving through C2 over next ~36hrs

06:42 UT W Limb	Moderately wide fan-like front, quite
			faint, further similar events follow

07:32 UT S East	Sequence of slow bright loop fronts with
cavities, wider brighter and faster than
			concurrent event in SW

19:31 UT W Limb	Sequence of narrow spray-like fronts,
			fairly faint

23:06 UT N East	Very faint loop front

2002/08/03

10:44 UT S West	Moderately bright spray-like front,
			another follows at 12:06

13:31 UT W Limb	Fairly wide fan-like front with slight cavity

17:30 UT S West	Very narrow jet, quite slow

19:31 UT W Limb	Well-defined bright loop front, quite wide,
cavity and some gusty outflow. X1.0 flare
			AR0039 W90

2002/08/04

05:30 UT W Limb	Extremely faint front with cavity, already
			well into C2

05:30 UT S West	Narrow loop front with slight cavity

06:42 UT W Limb	Faint loop front, wider faster and to
			N of previous event

08:06 UT N West	Narrow jet along streamer

08:30 UT N East	Initially bright front resolves to sequence
of thin well-defined loops. Remains narrow
			through C2. Fairly slow

09:06 UT S West	Faint amorphous asymmetric front,
			slight cavity

09:30 UT S West	Narrow bright ragged front along streamer.

14:30 UT S West	Nebulous front with some denser, brighter
			core-like regions

18:06 UT S West	Faint slow loop front

19:42 UT W Limb	Narrow front, initially quite bright

21:30 UT W Limb	Fairly wide patchy loop front, brightest

2002/08/05

00:06 UT W Limb	Very narrow spray-like front

00:30 UT N East	Very faint thin loop front

02:42 UT S West	Thin spray-like front, wider and brighter
			blobs follow

04:06 UT S West	Spray-like front, thicker brighter and
			faster than previous event

07:31 UT W Limb	Moderately wide faint front with cavity,
well into C2 at this time

07:31 UT S West	Ragged front along streamer

08:30 UT S West	Narrow loop front, quite bright, follows
			previous event
