SOHO/LASCO  HALO CME January 29, 2024

C2 Start Time:  4:12 - 4:24 UT

C3 Start Time:  4:30 - 4:42 UT

Type of CME:
Asymmetric HALO CME — FRONTSIDE
pa1:  48    pa2:  163      Total Width:  245 degrees

Velocity Measurements:

C2:   3 points  1509.1 km/sec @ PA 293.33
C3:   8 points  1414.8 km/sec @ PA 293.36
Average through both(C2/C3) fields:  1412.5 km/sec  Acceleration: 2.78 m/sec^2

COMMENT:  LASCO C2/C3 show a relatively fast moving bright partial halo CME. The CME emerges with a bright leading edge and core from the NW . The halo CME rapidly propagates outwards wrapping around to the N/E and S .The halo CMEs source is a M6.8 class flare centered on N28W86 (AR 13559) observed best in SDO AIA 193/131. The flare is followed by post eruptive arcades and an EUV wave.

LASCO shows extreme proton flux in the field of view. (SEP)

NOAA/GOES reports a M6.8 flare from AR 13559 03:54/04:38/04:55 UT

STEREO Beacon Data COR2 A, Preliminary time/height at 5 points of measurement gives a velocity of 1428.1 km/s @PA 279.30. STEREO COR2A shows a partial halo CME emerging from the NW beginning at approximately 4:38 UT. The halo CME propagates outwards, wrapping around to the N/E and S. The halo CME is followed by exteme proton flux in the field of view.

Preliminary UCMEO velocity and position measurements are delivered first.
