We are currently involved in a extensive observing and data
analysis campaign into the changing structure of the EUV network,
from the lower transition region to the corona, using CDS.
(Both of my thesis supervisors, F.P. Keenan and K.J.H. Phillips,
are Associate Scientists for this instrument.) The results to date have
been based on the analysis of small (4' x 4') CDS rasters of the Quiet s
Sun at close to disc centre in He I, He II, O III, O IV, O V, Ne VI,
Mg VIII, Si VIII, Mg IX and Mg X. The intensity distribution within
each of these images has been used to evaluate a variety of network
properties, including network area, emission, contrast, and fractal
dimension as a function of height through the solar atmosphere. As a
supplement to these, we have recently obtained high resolution MDI
magnetograms, taken simultaneously with the CDS images, which will
be used as a further tracer to the network.

Using EIT, we are interested in obtaining a series of high resolution
images taken both co-temporally and co-spatially with our CDS and
MDI data. These observations should both allow us to qualitatively
evaluate the degree to which any remaining network features are
detectable within the lower corona, using images in Fe IX-X, Fe XII,
and Fe XV. In addition, we will be able to analyse larger spatial regions
in He II. The data of particular interest to our studies are;
